Teller Lake, Colorado

June 2003

The trailhead, if you want to call it that, is at Mammoth Basin. There is no trailhead to Teller Lake, but there is a parking area at the old Mammoth Reservoir. The elevation at Mammoth Basin is approximately 9,750 feet and the elevation at Teller Lake is approximately 9,615 feet. The hike to the lake requires wading across the runoff stream of what was Mammoth Reservoir, and bushwhacking through the trees. Teller Lake is a small peaceful mountain lake and a favorite hike of mine. Midway between Mammoth Basin and Teller Lake are the remains of an old cabin. I don't know the story of the cabin or how long it has been there. It was quite by accident that I found it.
